Athletes enjoy this course for its beauty and small-town atmosphere. Montauk is a quaint fishing and surfing town on the easternmost tip of Long Island. The town is known for its natural beauty and sports enthusiastic visitors. Montauk is one of the birthplaces of triathlon. The sport is growing and athletes want to challenge themselves with longer events. There are few metro area triathlons of this distance. In addition to providing a venue for the athletes, this event will showcase Montauk at a time when the weather is still nice but the summer crowds are not as heavy. This is a great family weekend to spend on the east end with the Olympic and Sprint triathlons both taking place on Sunday.
