The Fort Gibson American Legion and Trail of Honor Flags will host the 6th Annual Trail of Honor 5k & Fun Run on May 23rd in Fort Gibson. Trail of Honor Flags incorporated was founded in 2019 to continue and expand the efforts of American Legion volunteers who have put temporary flags from HWY 62 to the National Memorial Cemetery. The goal is Trail of Honor, and this event, is to make those flags permanent, which will consist of 300 flag poles each with a 5x8 American Flag. Runners will have a option of carrying a flag throughout the race. When registering, you will be asked about this, so please respond with a yes if you would like to carry a flag. By participating in this event you will help this cause and will honor our current and past service members as you run through the flags on Memorial Day weekend.
