White Dog Distilling Co. and NEW Ales Brewery are partnering to bring back Chugs For Jugs! This event goes to benefit a local woman and her journey with breast cancer. All proceeds from the walk/run, raffle baskets, and specialty beer sales will go to her. (A new recipient is chosen every year!) The pub crawl will leave from NEW Ales Brewing and take you on a guided walk through downtown Middletown. You will make four stops and spend 20 minutes at each pub. During that time you can order a beer or other drink if you’d like. Your Guides will make sure everyone leaves at the same time and follows the rules of the road on the way to the next stop. Meet this years recipient Walking by Faith, Fighting with Strength: Ashley’s Journey "Life has been hard, but my Lord and Savior has guided me every step of the way." My name is Ashley Baker. I am 37 years old, born and raised in Middletown, Ohio. For nearly four years, I have poured my heart into my job driving the blue trucks for Kroger Fulfillment. Kroger has been such a wonderful company to me, and I am a dedicated employee who never misses work. I even kept a perfect safety record for two straight years, staying completely "Lytx-free" from our truck's onboard safety cameras. Because my job is very physical, and the chemotherapy causes severe fatigue and numerous other side effects, it is impossible for me to work and drive safely right now. I am temporarily off work on short-term disability until my treatments are fully completed. The Kroger team has been incredibly supportive throughout this entire battle—they have my job waiting for me, and they are all excited to see me cross the finish line and return to work. On March 5, God gave me a new path to walk when I was diagnosed with Grade 3 Triple-Positive Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. My battle has been intense: a double mastectomy and 12 lung biopsies. Life has been incredibly hard as a woman—to have both of your breasts removed and to immediately face the loss of your fertility. Because I have never birthed a child and the treatments could force me into early menopause, I had to undergo emergency egg freezing. Time was so short before cancer treatment had to begin that I only had the opportunity to go through one single procedure. I am praying with everything I have that I will still be able to birth a child of my own one day. While my partner is still working hard, I am only receiving a percentage of my normal income. To make matters more difficult, my short-term disability ends at the beginning of September, at which point I will have zero income coming in on my end. Like most completely healthy 37-year-olds, I never signed up for long-term disability because I never could have imagined going from perfect health to a cancer diagnosis overnight. I will have to figure that part out when the time comes, but right now, the financial strain is immediate. In the shockingly brief period of just three months between my diagnosis on March 5th and today, June 6th, our medical bills and expenses have already piled up to over $10,000. Through all of this, we are also doing everything we can to maintain our home and care for our beloved animals—our two dogs and three parrots. Because of the timeline for my surgeries and emergency procedures, I finally had my very first chemotherapy infusion on May 26th. We are just getting started here. I am fighting this cancer through a clinical trial called ATEMPT 2.0, receiving a targeted chemotherapy drug called T- DM1 followed by targeted therapy. This is a grueling, long-term commitment that requires a full 51 weeks of treatment. Breast cancer treatments have come so far—twenty years ago, this diagnosis was a death sentence—and I am proud to be part of a trial that will save others. The financial burden of endless MRIs, scans, and treatments is heavy, but my spirit is not broken. I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ. There have been so many beautiful blessings wrapped inside this difficult journey, and I praise God every single day for sparing my life. Thank you for your love, your prayers, and your support at this benefit as I walk through this healing process. ——————— Event Details Participant wave details: Wave 1: Leaves Promptly at 2:00PM Wave 2: Leaves Promptly at 2:30PM Wave 3: Leaves Promptly at 3:00PM Wave 4: Leaves Promptly at 3:30PM Wave 5: Leaves Promptly at 4:00PM Raffle baskets and split the pot: Drawings will be done at 7PM sharp. *You must be present to win the split the pot. *You do not have to be present to win a raffle basket.
