Some races are about running fast. This one is about not getting caught. Back in 2020, when races disappeared and runners were looking for something fun, a little crazy, and socially distanced, the Corona Classic was born. What started as a one-time event quickly became one of the most memorable races we've ever hosted. For years we've heard the same question: "When are you bringing back the Corona Classic?" Well...it's back. What makes it different? The slowest runners start first. The fastest runners start last. When you register, you'll submit your predicted finish time. We'll use those predictions to create staggered start times so that, in theory, everyone reaches the finish line at the same time. Of course, theory and reality are rarely the same thing. The early starters spend 10 miles trying to hold everyone off. The later waves spend 10 miles chasing everyone down. And nobody really knows who's winning until the final stretch. The goal: Be the first person back. Not necessarily the fastest. Just the first one across the finish line. Race Details Distance: 10 miles First wave start: 6:30 AM Location: Blue Sky Endurance Timing: Running clock at the finish Course: Open roads and sidewalks Categories: Prediction Challenge — Closest to predicted finish time. Watches allowed. Naked Prediction Challenge — Closest to predicted finish time without a watch, phone, or other way to see pace/time during the race. The Prediction Challenge is presented by our Community Partner, Without Limits Charleston . Awards: Overall winners, closest prediction, and a few Corona Classic surprises. A Word About the Course The 10-mile run course consists of an out-and-back from Blue Sky Endurance to Stella Maris Church on Sullivan's Island. This is an open-course event. Roads are not closed, and participants must obey all traffic laws. You may encounter traffic lights, pedestrians, or a drawbridge opening. These delays are considered part of the event and will not result in time adjustments. Think of it as part of the challenge—every runner faces the same course and the same possibilities. Race Day Schedule 6:00 AM – Check-in opens 6:15 AM – Race instructions 6:30 AM – First wave start Subsequent waves begin based on predicted finish times. Awards immediately following the final finisher. Overall Champions First 3 people to cross the finish line Best Predictor Closest to predicted finish time with and without a watch Last Person Standing Last finisher gets a fun prize Corona Classic Spirit Award Most memorable runner The Spirit of the Event The Corona Classic works because runners make honest predictions. Could you sandbag your time and try to game the system? Sure. But where's the fun in that? This event is built on good sportsmanship, friendly competition, and the belief that every runner—from the front of the pack to the back—deserves a legitimate shot at winning. Run your race. Chase your prediction. Try not to get caught. See you at the starting line.
