Sam’s Rainbow Run: Honoring a Legacy of Love and Kindness Sam was a remarkable young man whose life was tragically cut short in a plane crash in September 2022. At just 23 years old, Sam had recently graduated from Colorado State University (CSU) in December 2021 and was pursuing his dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot. He began flight training in the summer of 2022, but his journey was sadly ended far too soon. Sam’s vibrant personality and infectious energy left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. To know Sam was to love him. His smile and laugh could light up any room, and he had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Sam came out to me, his mom, during his freshman year in college, but being gay was just one facet of who he was. Sam was an incredible athlete—a skier, climber, golfer, and more.
