Welcome to Southern Grit Endurance Challenge Located in south-central Kentucky, Southern Grit takes place in a landscape where rugged hills meet gently rolling terrain — a natural transition between the Appalachian Plateau and the Bluegrass region. Nestled in the distinctive “Knobs” region, steep wooded hills rise dramatically from fertile farmland, creating a striking and scenic backdrop. The race unfolds in the small community of Butchertown, in northern Casey County. Race Overview Southern Grit offers 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hour races, along with 3-, 6-, 12-, 24 hour ruck events, promising a true test for athletes of all backgrounds and abilities. Click Here To Download Runners' Guide Main Aid Station One of the best parts of Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is the warm, community atmosphere at our main aid station, located right at the start/finish line. We’ll also have water and Tailwind available out on the course for quick replenishment while you’re on your loop. At the main station, you’ll find all the essentials — water, electrolytes, and classic aid station snacks — plus delicious hot food you won’t want to miss. If you prefer self-aid, you’re in luck — you’ll pass your tent or vehicle on every loop, making it easy to grab your own food, gear, and supplies without stepping off the course. How Winners Are Determined The Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is a timed endurance event offering 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, and 24-hour race options. ⏱️ RACE DAY RULES — KNOW BEFORE YOU GO ⏱️ (3hr • 6hr • 12hr • 24hr Events) All timed events follow the same format — make sure you understand how it works 👇 1️⃣ Most Distance Wins Your placement is based on total laps completed. Example: If you are running the 3 Hour and you come through at 2:40 and stop, but someone comes through at 2:55 and goes out for one more lap — and completes it — they will finish ahead of you. - If there’s time left, another lap can change everything. 2️⃣ Starting Your Final Lap You can start a new lap any time before your clock expires on your distance you are registered for. - If you start before time runs out, that lap counts — even if you finish after time expires. 3️⃣ On-Course / Tent Access Rule - The course passes directly by your tent on the way back to the start/finish line. -As you are finishing a lap, you may stop at your tent to grab nutrition, gear, or anything you need. - After leaving your tent, you will continue to the start/finish line to eithe r: • Begin your next lap, or • Finish your race 🚫 Once you cross the start/finish line and begin a new lap, you are on course and may NOT return to your tent until that lap is completed. 4️⃣ Tie-Breaker Rule If runners complete the same number of laps: - First person back to the finish line on their final lap wins. 5️⃣ Dropping from the Event If you decide to stop early: - You must notify timing immediately so we can keep results accurate and everyone accounted for. BOTTOM LINE: - Watch the clock - Every lap matters - Use your tent smart between laps - Finish strong — positions can change late Awards • 3 Hour: Top 3 Male & Top 3 Female • 6 Hour: Top 3 Male & Top 3 Female •12 Hour: Top 3 Male & Top 3 Female • 24 Hour: Top 3 Male & Top 3 Female • 100 Miles: Finishers will receive a special buckle for completing this distance. Ruck Division: Top Overall Male and Female will be awarded in each event. All Finishers: Everyone who completes their event will receive a special award! Camping Primitive camping is available at the race site on Friday and Saturday nights — the perfect way to fully embrace the race weekend. Each space accommodates up to a 10' x 10' tent or similar setup. Restrooms are available onsite, but no showers are provided, so come ready for a true outdoor adventure. Dog Policy: As much as we love animals, our insurance policy does not allow dogs or pets on the premises. We kindly ask that you leave your pets at home.
